ART by the RIVER, which is held annually the weekend before the Labour Day weekend is the major fundraiser for the Gibson Gallery. This Arts and Craft Festival, which was first held in 1967, is Essex County's original Arts & Crafts Show. It has grown into an end of summer tradition in Amherstburg, attracting 150 artists and artisans from across Ontario.

In 2017, to celebrate Canada 150, Parks Canada offered free admission and welcomed over 27 million visitors to our national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites. What better way to say “thank you” to our visitors than to offer a free admission day?

Admission is already free on Canada Day, but we’re adding another day for you to enjoy your favourite activities without paying any admission fees.

The Friends of Fort Malden is proud to be assisting with the Fish Fry at the Amherstburg Knights of Columbus on Friday June 1st. Stop by, have a great meal and let your favorite “Friend” clear your plates for you. Each dinner will include a dinner roll, baked potatoes or fries, Cole slaw, and coffee/tea. For all those people with a sweet tooth, there will be a dessert table. The Knight of Columbus Community Hall, is at 190 Richmond Street.

Battle of Fort Meigs

As April 29, 1813 dawned, the soldiers at Fort Meigs had been surrounded for two days by British forces and their Native American allies. This was a defining moment in the history of our state and nation. The First Siege of Fort Meigs would help turn the tide of war and usher in a series of American victories that would secure the Ohio frontier. General William Henry Harrison wrote that day, "It is at length reduced to certainty that the enemy are about to carry into effect their threatened attack on this post" and urged his men "To your posts then, fellow Soldiers, and remember that the eyes of your Country are upon you!"
